Coastal Music Studios

Sorry, it’s been awhile without an update… this is mostly due to being overwhelmingly busy with lessons, sessions, side projects, bands, YouTube channel development and most importantly, our new son Logan who is just 6 weeks old.  He is adorable and he has already captured our hearts… my first son Evan loves him so much, he is always asking to “hold it, hold it!”  We are truly blessed.

I have some great, exciting new news that is related to lessons.  I have now officially partnered up with a FANTASTIC new music studio that is opening up in Carlsbad very shortly called Coastal Music Studios.  It is owned and operated by my good friends Andy and Pam Allen.  They are some of the best musicians I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with and performing with and I am extremely happy to be able to now offer my in-studio lessons at their location.  Click on their name above to go to their website and check it out… it is still under construction, but they are amazing people and I’m stoked to be partnering with them.  I will still offer mobile lessons as well for the time being, but now have a steady studio location in which to teach out of.  The location is awesome… it is clean, creative, has a waiting room for parents with amenities (LCD TV, magazines, etc.), a large rehearsal/lesson space for group lessons, and smaller individual rooms for one-on-one lessons.  This place is awesome and it is run by awesome people… couldn’t turn this opportunity down!  ; )

Student Rock Show Vid

Here is a quick collage video of the RBSOM Student Rock Show from February, 2012 @ Carvin.  My students did an AMAZING job, as always… I am extremely proud of them and their hard work.  For a few of them, this was their *very* first time playing live and they did so in front of a crowd of about 250 people.  Such a great experience.

And, for my students that couldn’t make this one… next one is in July, so get ready!  : )

Student Rock Show

Ok, so student rock shows are pretty much the best.  There is very little on earth more satisfying than seeing one of your students be able to go from learning their first drum beat, to up on stage in front of 300 people playing with a full band of other fellow music students and rocking out while covering one of their favorite songs.  Well, that time has come again…

Saturday, February 25th, 1pm: Rock Band School of Music presents – Monsters of Rock
The show will be held at:
Carvin Guitar Factory
12340 World Trade Dr.
San Diego, CA 92128

Here is the Facebook invite for the show:

Seth Hollander, owner of RBSOM, kindly is allowing my students to participate and so the show will feature several JZ Drumming students, as well.  Tickets are only $10.00, and there are going to be over 20 band performances, including songs by System of a Down, Megadeth, The Killers, The Beatles, Avenged Sevenfold, Black Eyed Peas, Tool, The Ramones, Switchfoot, AC/DC, Green Day, Smashing Pumpkins, Foster the People, John Mayer, and many more.

Studio

I headed back into the studio this last weekend with two of my good friends, Jason Vandewarker & Andrew Peet.  Jason is an ex-band mate from Cold Weather Rescue and we have been friends and have played music together for years.  Andrew is an old friend who has a studio that is fantastic and he is one heck of an egnineer / producer.  Jason and myself wanted to record some old CWR songs that got left on the cutting room floor, as well as some originals of his that have never even seen the light of day.  We are planning on having some friends / guest musicians help out with the project, as well.  We have about 10 songs on deck, and we got my Tama Starclassic Bubinga all mic’d up and ready to go for sessions starting this weekend… check back soon for updates, pictures, video, and song samples.

Coachella 2012

Coachella 2012 Set List

Crazy… I’ve always wanted to go to Coachella, but something comes up every year in which I can’t go.  However, I am so amazingly tantelized by this year’s line up, I might just have to do it.

For anyone who has been around the music scene long enough and have played a lot of indie rock, post hardcore, punk and post punk, you have heard of two extremely popular-among-musicians bands… At The Drive-In and Refused.  Each band has been broken up / on hiatus for years (not sure what the guys from Refused went on to do, but ATDI fractured into two other very popular indie bands: Sparta and The Mars Volta), and yet, all of a sudden… they are both reuniting to perform at Coachella this year!  “Wow” would be an understatement.  If you have not checked out these bands, please go do so right now and educate yourself on what a lot of the current post harcore, screamo, and post punk bands are trying to model their sound after.
